Bossa’s very own musical curator, Jim Thomson, is gifting DC with live world music during the entire month of October. His Flash of the Spirit Worldwide Sound Festival aims “to present emerging and remarkable international musicians from abroad as well as local musicians from our diverse immigrant communities to celebrate their stories, heritage, and cultures through their music”.
This is not uncharted turf for Thomson who, as the brain behind multicultural sound agency Multiflora Productions, knows well many obscure artists from near and far that deserve a spotlight.
The festival lineup has it all: acts from such varied places as China, Mali, Cuba, Ukraine, Syria; as well as local gems from such countries as Ethiopia, Colombia, and others. You can catch the following shows right here at Bossa:
Wednesday, October 3: Melaku Belay and Fendika with Anbessa Orchestra
Thursday, October 4: Feedel Band – Ethiopian Funk, Soul, + Jazz
Sunday, October 7: Sessa + Special Guests: Bossa/Afro-Brazilian Music
Friday, October 12: Flamenco Duo Julia Patinella + Andreas Arnold with La Magdalena
Saturday, October 13: Latinx Showcase: STEFA* | Antonia | Conquista
