Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto bring a century of tradition inspired by the passion of a lifetime.
The group formed in the mid-1950s and first toured throughout Colombia under the leadership of folklorists Manuel and Delia Zapata Olivella. In 1958, they began touring internationally; in 1968, they performed at the Olympic Cultural Games in México.
Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto is one of the few gaita ensembles whose music has been commercially produced, which has made them the most important musical group of the gaita and cumbia traditions in Colombia and worldwide.
Their 2007 album, Un Fuego de Sangre Pura (Fire in the Blood)—part of the Smithsonian Folkways Series Recordings of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.—won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Traditional Album. In 2020, Los Gaiteros were nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Album.
