American Nomad

The R&B Americana band American Nomad is a DC-based group with a reputation for putting on a rollicking, foot-stomping show. Think a James-Taylor-plus-Bill-Withers vibe with danceable grooves set to a Route 66 backdrop. We sat down with the band’s founder, Hassan El-Tayyab, to learn a little bit more about what American Nomad has in store for Bossa.

Tell us about the origins of the band’s name.

“American Nomad” came to me while sitting on my couch with a guitar after I took a cross-country road trip in my mid-twenties. During that journey, it dawned on me that a few things were simultaneously true: I was the descendant of Jordanian Bedouins, and I had just driven across America on a quest to gain insight about my life and to overcome creative blocks. Since then, it has served as an umbrella under which I’ve played music with incredible musicians on both the East and West Coasts.

Who comprises American Nomad?

I play acoustic/electric guitar, write the songs, and sing lead vocals. The other members are Eric Matthew (drums/harmony vox), Johnny Seiklay (electric bass), Marcel Penzes (trombone), and Brendon Schnabel (tenor sax).

What can audiences expect from your upcoming performance?

Audiences can expect smart songwriting, strong musicianship, and music inspired by the spirit of travel and authentic life experiences. Our performances appeal to a wide variety of tastes, making each show an engaging, high-energy experience that invites everyone to dance and sing along.

What are you most looking forward to about playing at Bossa?

We love playing at Bossa! The vibes are incredible, and the drinks are top-notch. The sound system is fantastic, making every performance a joy for us and our audience. It’s always a treat to bring our friends and fans to such a welcoming spot for live music. We’re also excited to be joined by Two Dollar Bill, another talented local Americana band. Their rootsy sound complements ours perfectly, making this a night of music you won’t want to miss!

Don’t miss American Nomad with Two Dollar Bill on Saturday, June 8, at 7:00 pm!
